Alissa was born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin. She went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for undergrad and then was part of the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. From Alissa - "I have a wonderful family back at home who has been my support through all the years of medical training. I have an amazing husband, Aaron, who followed me to Lansing. We have four fur babies who we adore (two dogs Beau and Forrest and two cats Deedee and Olive). In my free time, I enjoy watching sports (Go Badgers!), walking my dogs, being an ameteur foodie, being outdoors, hiking, fishing, and biking. My guilty pleasures include using my collection of bourbons to make fancy cocktails. I've also watched The Office series more times than I like to admit!"
